QC WORKERS ANGRY AT OUR MAYOR

Employees of Quezon City Hall launched a protest rally the other day to denounce the alleged mismanagement of the city government’s funds.

The employees, who staged the rally at around 12:00NN at the city hall quadrangle, expressed their disappointment over Mayor Feliciano ‘Sonny’ Belmonte who vetoed the release of the government workers’ Cost of Living Allowance (COLA)

The COLA release was earlier passed and approved by the City Council through a resolution calling for the allocation of P661 million for that matter.

Earlier reports said the local government has sufficient funds for the allocation of P150 million for this year and P511 million for 2011 for the release of the COLA.

The employees said they deserve the release of the COLA because they have faithfully done their jobs for 21 years.

The employees have not received their COLA since 1989.

Aside from this, City Hall employees have not yet received their salaries for the months of February and March.

“We are now having doubts as to where the local government funds went. Now, they can’t even give us our salaries,” an irate employee who requested anonymity stated.

City Hall employees promised they will not stop fighting for their rights because they have worked hard for their salaries and benefits.
