Mayoralty candidate Mike Defensor has baselessly accused me of using my budget to buy food. While the accusations may be somewhat true, I have conducted a regular forum on urban gardening program called “Halaman sa Bakuran”, which invites food experts and food producers as resource speakers. This project will greatly lower my 750M budget that I spent food and drinks in the last 3 years. There are a lot of mouths to feed in Quezon City. Even some of my relatives have suffered from hunger.
Inspired by the success of my “Halaman sa Bakuran” project, the Quezon City Council has passed a resolution strongly urging barangay leaders of the city’s 142 barangays to implement the project in their constituents’ backyards, as well as in vacant lots in their communities.
When I am Mayor, my budget for food will be greatly reduced because of my mother project- “Halaman sa Bakuran”. So expect the best from Herbert Bautista for Mayor!
We have the worst police force in the country.
If and when I am elected Mayor, heads will spin in the Quezon City Police force.
I consider this as one of the flaws of the current administration of Sonny Belmonte. When I become Mayor solving criminality will be on top of my agenda. I will personally see to it that we crack down on criminality.
We will have round-the-clock crime watch which I, personally will supervise. The police force will directly be under the supervision of the Office of the Mayor.
Liberal party old timers have launched an assault against me. They say that I have gone too far getting sympathy at the expense of the political party. Well, I sacrificed my career and my alliance with the powerful Lakas ruling party just to be with the Liberal Party. I think I deserve full support from my party mates especially now that my popularity is dipping in the surveys. I am in a statistical tie with Mayoralty candidate Mike Defensor!
Fr. Melvin talked about Humanae Vitae (of Human Life) the encyclical issued by Pope Paul VI more than 40 years ago. The said encyclical reaffirmed the teaching of the Roman Catholic Church regarding abortion, contraception, and other issues pertaining to human life and categorically prohibited all forms of artificial contraception since this is against the moral law. In the said encyclical Pope Paul VI predicted about the ill effects on society of a contraceptive mentality - a “general lowering of moral standards” and marital infidelity resulting from sex without consequences; the danger that men may lose respect for women and reduce women “to being a mere instrument for the satisfaction of [their] own desires”; abuse of power by public authorities who care little for the precepts of the moral law and, a false sense of autonomy which would mislead human beings into thinking they had unlimited dominion over their own bodies.
I think, father Melvin Castro’s contemplations are from the dark ages. Quezon City is already overpopulated especially Payatas and the depressed areas. The Catholic Church should be attuned with the times. I, myself, already have too many children, and I want to care for them dearly.
I say yes to contraception… “Masaya mag-reproduce diba”!
A couple of days after Mayoralty candidate Mike Defensor issued a statement that he would focus on the drive against crime particularly carnapping to cleanse the City’s image as the “Carnap Capital”, the Toyota Fortuner of Defensor’s running-mate Aiko Melendez got stolen.
I sincerely sympathize with our Councilor Aiko Melendez, and I hope it does not happen to anyone again.
I also plead to our incumbent Mayor Sonny Belmonte and the Quezon City police to take action in solving this sort criminality. This should be eradicated while under Belmonte's watch as Mayor. This event may even send out the wrong signal to my constituents about my capabilities!
Mike Defensor derided former comedian Vice Mayor Herbert Bautista, saying “he has done nothing for the city.” Defensor said so at a recent press conference announcing his bid to run for Mayor of Quezon City with Aiko Melendez as her running mate for vice mayor. “[Now] if you could find a single project he (Bautista) did, I will withdraw my candidacy,'' Defensor went on.
Doesn’t Mayoralty candidate Mike Defensor know that in my 9 year term as vice mayor, I have finally implemented my (dream) flagship project; "Halamanan sa Bakuran . My project promotes productive gardens that grow vegetables, herbs, medicinal and ornamental plants, and fruit trees. We have green beds of pechay and lettuce, plots of delicious kangkong and saluyot, and fruit-laden trellises of ampalaya and upo near my house!
He should try eating my vegetables- Ang Sarap!
