Fr. Melvin talked about Humanae Vitae (of Human Life) the encyclical issued by Pope Paul VI more than 40 years ago. The said encyclical reaffirmed the teaching of the Roman Catholic Church regarding abortion, contraception, and other issues pertaining to human life and categorically prohibited all forms of artificial contraception since this is against the moral law. In the said encyclical Pope Paul VI predicted about the ill effects on society of a contraceptive mentality - a “general lowering of moral standards” and marital infidelity resulting from sex without consequences; the danger that men may lose respect for women and reduce women “to being a mere instrument for the satisfaction of [their] own desires”; abuse of power by public authorities who care little for the precepts of the moral law and, a false sense of autonomy which would mislead human beings into thinking they had unlimited dominion over their own bodies.
I think, father Melvin Castro’s contemplations are from the dark ages. Quezon City is already overpopulated especially Payatas and the depressed areas. The Catholic Church should be attuned with the times. I, myself, already have too many children, and I want to care for them dearly.
I say yes to contraception… “Masaya mag-reproduce diba”!
